Introduction

The cost of counselling shouldn't be the reason someone misses out on support.

There are several ways counselling may be funded, depending on your circumstances, and the pathways below will help you see what might apply to you.

Private sessions

Private counselling offers flexibility without requiring a referral.

Sessions are tailored to your individual needs and arranged at a time that works for both of us.

ACC Sensitive Claims

I am a registered ACC Sensitive Claims provider through Active Plus.

If you've experienced sexual abuse or sexual assault, you may be eligible for fully funded counselling through ACC, and you don't need to have reported it to Police.

If you're unsure whether you qualify, get in touch and I'll happily explain the process.

Gumboot Friday

Eligible young people may be able to access free counselling through Gumboot Friday.

If you already have a referral, we can arrange your sessions through this pathway.

Not sure if you qualify? The Gumboot Friday website has full eligibility details.

Clearhead

If your employer offers Clearhead, you may be able to access counselling through your workplace wellbeing programme.

Just mention this when you enquire.

Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP)

I accept referrals through selected Employee Assistance Programmes.

Let me know your provider when you enquire, and I'll confirm whether they can be accommodated.

Victim Support

I am a registered provider with Victim Support.

If you've been referred through Victim Support, we can discuss the next steps together.

Health Insurance

Some private health insurance policies include cover for counselling.

I'd recommend checking your policy first, and I'm happy to help with documentation if your insurer requires it.

Cancellation policy

Life happens.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours' notice where possible.

Late cancellations or missed appointments may incur the full session fee unless exceptional circumstances apply.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about fees and funding.

How many sessions will I need?

This is different for everyone. Some people find a few sessions helpful, others prefer ongoing support. We'll talk about what feels right as we go, and there's no set number to commit to upfront.

Do I need a referral?

Not for private counselling. Referrals are only needed for some funded pathways, like ACC Sensitive Claims or certain workplace programmes. If you're not sure, just ask.

Can I switch funding pathways later?

Often, yes. If your circumstances change, we can look at what's possible together.

Can I combine private and funded sessions?

In some cases, yes. It depends on the funding pathway involved. If this is something you'd like to explore, we can discuss it directly.

What if I'm not sure which funding option applies to me?

That's completely normal. We can work through it together when you're ready.

Let's find the right pathway together.

Whether you're accessing funded counselling or paying privately, the most important thing is taking the first step.
